REAR WHEEL DRIVE, 4 WHEEL. When I give an opinion on a scooter or chair, it's not the opinion of a salesman, it's the opinion of someone who uses and understands what it's like to use mobility scooters and powerchairs.

Folding Powerchairs are very popular items and you can see why. They combine almost all you could want from a powerchair into one easy to use lightweight package.

I have over 10 years experience of using chairs personally as well as professionally and so I would like to think I know what I'm talking about! There are a lot of cheap chairs available, which frankly aren't very good. They look very nice but the quality of materials and construction can be dangerously low. I've actually had one of these chairs snap in two whilst I was on it! And I'm only about 80kgs.

There are a handful of chairs that I'm happy to recommend and the chair listed here is one of them. I first started using mobility scooters about 11 years ago when I was diagnosed with M. About 3 years ago I'converted' to powerchairs.

I still use scooters now and then but my everyday rides are now powerchairs. For most uses I just prefer powerchairs.

They have SO many advantages. The BIG one is manoeuvrability. Scooters are, putting it politely, a pain in the bottom in supermarkets and shops. The endless 3 point turns and having to worry about running over other shoppers gets very tiring. Powerchairs however, are a delight for shopping.

The ability to spin around in the length of the chair and to drive right up to a shelf or counter makes shopping a pleasure. Access is another issue, particularly important for people with leg or hip problems such as arthritis. With a scooter you have to get your legs past the tiller; with a powerchair you just get straight in.

It's so much easier to transfer. Like scooters, powerchairs come in a variety of sizes and shapes.

The Freedomchair A08L is a lightweight, (not ultralightweight, more later), 4 wheel, foldable, portable, heavy duty (160kg weight capacity), big wheeled, indoor or outdoor powerchair. Let's get into some details.

What do I like about this chair? This is a high quality chair.

Quality materials, quality design and quality construction. If you look after it, it should give you years of service. You can see the quality when you look at it and you can feel the quality when you use it.

Not in the uncomfortable sense, but in the rattle free sense. Comfort is actually very good, with the large diameter wheels and the small springs under the seat doing a great job of smoothing out the lumps and bumps you get on most pavements today.

Freedomchair do two models of the A08; the basic A08 and this model, the A08L. The L tells you that this model has 25% bigger drive wheels and 50% bigger motors and those upgrades make a big difference to the chair, particularly on more difficult terrain. It gives it a whole different level of capability, with greater ability to roll over bumps and of course the greater power to tackle inclines. As I said, it's not a full off roader, but it is a very capable machine. Folding and unfolding could hardly be easier.

One clip just behind the seat and that's it! It literally takes about 5 seconds to fold or unfold.

Once folded it will fit in most average sized car boots. Smaller hatchbacks may need the rear seat, (or 2/3s of it if you have a car with a split folding rear seat), folding down. It weighs about 28.5kgs, which as I usually tell people, is about the same as a sack of potatoes.

There are chairs that are slightly lighter, like the popular Drive I-Go, which is a couple of kgs lighter, but I know both chairs well and the difference in solidity and quality of construction is substantial. The extra couple of kgs have been well used and the Freedomchair is a MUCH more solidly built machine. Battery life is very good on the Freedomchair and you'll notice on the picture of the back of the chair that it has three battery slots. As standard the A08L has a single battery with a quoted range of up to 9 miles, which will be ample for most people, but if you're a particularly high mileage user, you can add a second or even a third battery, which simply slot in to the extra slots and you instantly double or treble the range, to up to 27 miles. A quick word about the controller or joystick.

This isn't just the'standard' type that you find fitted to most other chairs. The controller on the A06L has the usual'functions' but look underneath and as well as the charging port that you expect to find, you'll also discover a usb charging port and an LED light. So, the A06L is a GREAT powerchair.

There really aren't many boxes that this chair doesn't tick. It hardly has a mark on it as per the pictures. The battery is strong and takes and holds charge well.

Tyres are excellent and the chair is running perfectly, with strong acceleration and precise controls. I think this is the best folding powerchair on the market. It comes complete with the correct charger for its Lithium battery pack. A few examples of comments from customers are shown below.

What an amazing customer service and excellent item thank you so much. Really pleased with the scooter... UK mainland buyers only please.

If you're not, contact me and I'll see what I can do. , costs to deliver to these more'remote' locations. Plus, I charge a lot less than the big carriers. It's also nice to know that your chair or scooter has reached you in one piece! Not something you can always be sure of with couriers!

I would rather do that than sell an unsuitable item to you. Mobility Scooters and Chairs come in a HUGE variety of different types and sizes and people do too, so matching one to the other requires knowledge and experience. You'll find my business details at the foot of the listing.
